Branding Already?

I had a friend recently who asked me about a company called Adcentives West. He was in the process of trying to figure out if his own small Internet company was ready for the next step of finding a promotional products company to take on the growing need to reach more people with more creative methods. He wanted a full line of imprinted promotional products that would go out in packages with his eBay auctions and as freebies to frequent customers on his website – everything from pencils to mugs and goofy little hats.
At first I thought it was a bad idea – after all, how big of a company did my friend think he had? It was him and three employees in a single office space on the 3rd floor of a mega-complex downtown. Then, I realized that it was actually genius. Branding on the Internet is not an easy process. There are billions of web pages and millions of visitors every day and the chance that anyone sees your name or logo more than once is slim to none. But, by giving away products to frequent customers, he could cross that digital threshold and start putting his company name in peoples’ living rooms, making himself present all the time.
