The Doctors We Don’t Want to Be

It is common for people to say that they don’t understand why someone would want to be a certain kind of doctor. A lot of people feel this way about podiatrists, for example. They don’t understand how someone could want to spend his or her entire career working on people’s feet. But of course there are folks who do want to go into exactly this kind of medicine. And it’s a good thing that there are because the rest of us need these people sometimes. As my grandmother likes to say, “it takes all kinds to make the world go around”.
The doctors that most of us can’t imagine being are exactly the ones that we sometimes need most. Another example is the doctor that treats problems like hemorrhoids. Most of us can’t imagine how a doctor could spend all day doing hemorrhoids removal or warts removal or skin tags removal, right? But if we have any of these problems then we are really grateful that those doctors are there to help us take care of some of life’s more uncomfortable medical problems. Perhaps that’s why these people become those types of doctors; they get satisfaction out of making people comfortable during tough times.
