Don’t Irk Your Customer

I work for a big defense contractor in Arizona where I’m an IT guy. It’s pretty cool because where I’m at they build one of the coolest things our military currently employs. It’s highly technical stuff, and let’s just say they do more than just a drug screening before they hire people here. I’d love to tell you more specifics, but alas, I would have to kill you.
Anyway, today I’m on the phone with a vendor because I’m having some recurring issues with some industry specific software. I swear we were on the phone for at least an hour, but it felt like we were on the phone all day. After offering nothing but excuses, I finally start getting fed up and ask him to offer up some solutions instead.
I wasn’t trying to get in this guys face or anything, but he kind of yanked my chain when he replied that maybe I didn’t know what I was doing when it came to IT security. You have got to be kidding me! I have had all kinds of information technology security training. I mean seriously, you have to know how to pass the CISSP exam before they bestow the CISSP label upon you. I guess he figured out he had gotten under my skin because he did apologize. After all, I am the customer here.
