Tips for Doing Things DIY

DIY is more than just an acronym; it’s a way of life. Do-it-yourselfers approach all of the tasks of daily life in a way that differs from those of us who hire people to do services and make products for us. If you want to switch to doing things in a DIY fashion, you need to adopt some of the habits of the DIY person.

Here are some tips for becoming more DIY:

  • Read. A lot. DIY doesn’t mean that you do things in a mediocre manner. Read up on how to make different things so that you can do it right.
  • Keep an idea journal. For example, a friend who wanted to do DIY Wedding Invitations started collecting samples of Tiger Lily Wedding Invitations and Butterfly Wedding Invitations which she taped to a sketch journal to assist her in figuring out how to make her own invitations.
  • Daydream. DIY ultimately means thinking outside of the box which you can’t do if you’re not pursuing creative thoughts. Do a lot of daydreaming.
  • Get a skill. You can do anything DIY but you should be able to do at least one thing really well. Learn to sew well or to build well with wood or to do at least one type of DIY thing better than the rest.

The great thing about the DIY life is that you can always improve on it and change it as you see fit!
