Intervention is a Tough Call

Intervention is when someone’s loved ones realize that he or she is having a problem that requires professional help but that the individual is incapable of actually making the decision to get that help. This is often the case when someone has a substance abuse problem or mental health issues. These people are unable to see that they have a problem and therefore the individual’s loved ones have to try to step in and get help for the person.

The decision about making an intervention is a really tough one, though. Ultimately, the individual needs to be willing to accept help before any intervention can be successful. Someone in Florida may be having a substance abuse problem and their family may be able to get them into the best Florida drug treatment or Florida alcohol treatment centers there are but if the individual doesn’t want help, the center won’t be able to do a whole lot for them.

People who perform an intervention that doesn’t lead to help can cause a lot of resentment and bitterness in the person that they were only trying to help. However, if the person can’t make the decision to get help, an intervention is sometimes necessary. It’s a big catch-22 and it makes it really tough to determine when an intervention is the right thing to do.
