Sleeping Masks Would Help My Dad Sleep
Posted by IKR on 08/17/08 in Health
My dad is being ridiculous. He has trouble sleeping—or rather, he falls asleep at the drop of a hat, but he snores like a trucker and actually wakes himself up with his snoring. Yeah. Imagine snoring like that in your living room. And it effects him so badly he barely gets any sleep during the night because he’s constantly waking up. So I finally hit Wikipedia and found out that he has sleep apnea. I tried to tell him this, and get him to go see a doctor, but he just grumbled at me. He says that he doesn’t want to talk to a doctor about it, because he knows what they’ll say (which is just plain crazy, by the way, he doesn’t have a medical degree hanging out in his closet). He says the doctor will tell him it’s sleep apnea, put him on a CPAP machine that will take up his entire bedroom, and he doesn’t want the hassle. Apparently he doesn’t want a proper night’s sleep either! And he’s totally wrong. This is what a CPAP machine looks like. It’s tiny! Manageable! And yes, he would have to sleep with a CPAP mask on, but still—isn’t that worth a good night’s sleep? And if the CPAP machine doesn’t work there is also the BiPAP machine—anyway you cut it, he’ll be able to get a good night’s sleep without much hassle. Now convincing him of that is a different story.
