If you were to purchase domains, forward them to a website and then place some links to those domains, would they get picked up by search engines and then rank for those keyword phrases?  Especially searches conducted for those exact keywords?  Well we are going to run a little test here. 

Below are several domains purchased with the explicit purpose of capturing a ranking for specific keyword phrases.  You can see they are all quite different.  We will place these exact "text links" on one other site with a decent PR.  Let’s see what happens over the next few weeks.
