Choosing Your (Key)Words Carefully
Posted by InstaKey on 04/27/09 in Keyword Research

The keywords you use when you are writing search engine optimized (SEO) content for your site are very important, yet many people tend to pluck them out of thin air.
The primary keywords you use need to also be used by people searching for your service or product in order to be useful. For instance, if you sell airsoft guns online, you need to know what terms your potential customers in their search engine searches, and design your website pages around those keywords.
The keywords you choose also need to make sense in the context of your website. For instance, if you sell KWA guns exclusively, it wouldn’t make sense to include keywords for Echo1 airsoft guns, no matter how often the latter is used as search terms. The one exception would be if you are writing a comparison review article on your website, comparing KWA and Echo1, in the hopes of attracting and converting potential Echo1 buyers.
But how do you know what keyword phrases your potential customers are using? By doing keyword research, of course. There are some free keyword selector tools that offer up basic information about various keywords, such as this keyword tool from Google, but for more thorough research (or if you aren’t sure how to interpret the results), you might want to hire a SEO company to do the keyword research for you.
