The Point of Keyword Phrases
Posted by InstaKey on 10/29/09 in Keyword Research
I talk to many clients who have no clue what “keyword phrases” really means, so by the time you get down to discussing SEO and keyword optimization, they are on the wrong idea altogether.
The biggest problem I see is that a lot of clients want to make up their own keyword phrases. It doesn’t work that way, unfortunately. The entire point of keyword phrases is to gear your page to the terms Internet users actually search for, not what YOU think are the best keyword phrases.
The best way to ensure that you are targeting the right keywords is to check with a keyword selector tool. Google and Yahoo both have free tools associated with their pay per click advertising programs. When you type in a keyword phrase, the tool will kick back all the related search terms people search for, as well as how often each phrase is searched for. So if you are putting together a website about, say, university diploma frames, you can type in those search terms and see what people are searching for.
This is a great tool to utilize, even if you are building an SEO website rather than planning pay per click ads, because you can ensure that your pages are optimized for a variety of related keyword terms. This covers all your bases, but also ensures that the most important search terms are identified!
