A Little Bit of Training Goes a Long way

When my mother decided on a whim to get another dog, no one knew about it until she showed up home with a Miniature Schnauzer under arm.  Now, my Dad loves dogs, but we already had a Pembroke Welsh Corgi that my Mom spoiled.  Now it seemed like we would have two demon dogs ruining around the house. As soon as the two dogs met, it was hate at first site.  They were constantly barking and nipping at each other, and sometime’s a finger or two was caught in the mix.  My Dad finally had enough and told my Mom to either train the dogs or get rid of them.

Of course she opted for training them, and immediately signed the two dogs up for obedience school.  Even after a couple of weeks, it was amazing the difference in the dogs’ behavior.  No more running out every second day for band aids. Once the classes were over, Mom continued training them on her own. After 7 months, you would never know they were the same dogs. No more fighting and biting, and while they were still spoiled, they weren’t nasty about it. And Dad was happy the dogs were no longer running the house.

No matter how big or small your dog is, I’m totally convinced that dog training is essential. Otherwise, dogs can make your life miserable.

If you have one or more dogs and they’re not well trained, they can start acting like a pack of wild dogs and become a danger to your kids, or even frail adults. Take my advice and train all of your dogs, no matter what breed they are.

I’m not too big a fan of little dogs, but the miniature Schnauzer is a great little dog. Choose your breeder carefully for dogs that are healthy and have even-tempered personalities.

Anybody who wants to own a dog owes it themselves, their family, and the dog to get some kind of obedience training. You’ll be happier and the dog will be happier knowing who’s boss.
