Passing the Torch

For the past ten years I have had the honor and privilege of playing a large role in the development of the youth in our church. Even though I have had a good run leading our Christian youth group, my time to lead has come to an end. Unfortunately it wasn’t up to me, but rather thanks to some serious health issues, I am stepping down.
But over the last ten years I think that I have really made a difference in our church which has been reflected by the involvement of our youth in the community. We have taken it upon ourselves to make the neighborhood a cleaner place and have served many meals to the homeless in our area. It is hard to measure the number of lives that we have touched, but you can see the impact of our work throughout the community.
Sadly, I have been reduced to spending most of my time in my wheelchair and resting since the condition of my neurological disorder has worsened. It is frustrating to see my body slip away on me while my mind is still sharp, and I will miss interacting with my kids.
But, I know that I am passing the torch to a good replacement and she will do a wonderful job with the youth in our church. Even though they will be in good hands, it is still hard for me to let go.
