Sorting Through Stuff to Find What You Want

I have noticed that one of the things that signifies that I am going through a period of intense emotional change is that I want to constantly go through my things. I weed through them, get rid of them, move them around and otherwise fidget with stuff until I’ve successfully gone through a major change.
Sometimes I just need to go through things as sort of a ritual. But sometimes it is the process of going through stuff that really reveals to me what it is that I am interested in changing about my life.
One really clear example of this was when I decided to go through all of the books that I had in my office which I had bought but never actually read. I discovered that I had a dozen books on how to start your own business. I had books about finding a good franchise business for sale and books about the steps to take to buy a business for sale.
Looking through these books, I suddenly admitted to myself that I wanted to start my own business. It took a little bit of time to actually launch the plan but it was started in those early stages by going through my old junk to find what it was I actually wanted.
