One of the things that parents have to deal with during travel is that their kids sometimes get bored. It doesn’t matter how great your destination is; your kids may still not like the place that you visit.

Here are some tips for parents to deal with kids who get bored on vacation:

• Let them pick some of the activities. If you’re going to Banff, you may think that the only thing the family should do there is ski. However there are a lot of things to do in Banff. Ask the kids what they want to do and they might find something interesting. Putting the ball in their court helps break them out of their boredom.
• Allow them to entertain themselves. Yes, you hate it that they’re just playing their video games and listening to their mp3 players. They could have done that at home. However, if it’s the difference between a sulking trip and a calm one then you might want to just give in for at least a portion of the vacation.
• Do nothing. There’s no reason that you have to entertain your kids on vacation. When they complain that they’re bored, simply ignore the problem. Let them know that you’re sorry that they’re bored but you’re not. Eventually they’ll stop complaining and start having a good time!
